Headroom compresses what an AI agent reads before sending it to the model

- The price cut. @ClaudeDevs says Opus 5.5 performs at the level of Fable 5.1 while running about 30% faster and 40% cheaper per task than Opus 5. Claude Code users also get more room: five-hour session limits (the amount of work a subscription allows in each five-hour window) rose 20%. Because each task now costs less, those limits stretch about 25% further. For a seller on a flat monthly plan, the practical effect is more drafts, audits or ad variations before hitting the cap.
- Idle agents stop costing money. On the same day, @digitalocean opened Managed Agents to the public. An agent is an AI that carries out a multi-step job on its own, such as researching competitors and then writing copy. DigitalOcean's version pauses when idle, lets you pick from more than 75 models and puts everything on one bill. You stop paying for an agent that is sitting there waiting.
- Token compression is the second lever. AI usage is billed in tokens, small chunks of text the model reads and writes. The open-source Headroom project shrinks tool outputs, logs, files and chat history before they reach the model. Its developer claims token savings of 60–95% with the same answers (@AI_creator_Yara). That figure has not been independently tested.
- What it means in dollars is still unclear. The announcement does not list new prices for each plan, and there is no public data yet on what Shopify sellers actually spend on AI each month. Until someone publishes before-and-after bills, "40% cheaper" is a per-task figure, not a promise about your invoice. Heavy users already see the value: @kdseifu calls Claude Max mandatory because "i never worry about hitting my limit again."
- What to do this week. Record your current AI spend and how many assets it produced last month, then compare the same numbers after switching routine jobs to Opus 5.5. Jolli, highlighted by @DataChaz, reads local Claude Code and Cursor sessions and shows spend per session without sending the data anywhere.
